Perhaps the most notable trend in recent years among Aussie punters online is to bet on some of the smaller local races that might be providing superior odds and betting options. For instance, the Gold Coast races have become extremely popular in recent years as more and more catch on to the great opportunities in the region.

The Gold Coast races have quite a rich history in the region dating back to the 1890’s with occasional meetings held close to where the current Gold Coast races are held by the Gold Coast Turf Club. However, the club wouldn’t become as popular as it is today, and in its current location until 1946. Back then the Gold Coast Turf Club was known as the Southport and District Amateur Race Club. During the 70’s the club would continue to gain popularity among racing fans and punters with regular race meetings held on Saturdays as well as the introduction of the prestigious three-day Newmarket-Gold Coast Cup carnival. The race meetings held by the Gold Coast Turf Club have come quite a long way since then with the introduction of the Prime Minister’s Cup in 1974, which would eventually become the richest provincial Australian race. To this day the event continues to be one the main attractions for Aussie punters interested in Gold Coast races and in 2006 had prize purse of $1.6 million.

The Gold Coast Turf Club definitely provides tons of action for Australian race fans with over 60 regular race meetings held throughout the season each year, all being tracked on racing carnival news sites around the world. There are also many annually special events that attract thousands of Aussie punters online including the 19-day Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Carnival held annually in January. Some of the other popular race meetings held throughout the year by the Gold Coast Turf Club include the Gold Coast City Cup Raceday, Prime Minister’s Cup Carnival, Easter Carnival, Melbourne Cup Raceday, and the Gold Coast Stakes Raceday. These will definitely be the top events throughout the year on the Gold Coast Turf Club race calendar and musts for all Aussie punters interested in Gold Coast races.
