Nordic Empire is in doubt for the 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic after pulling up sore from track work this morning.
Trainer Mick Price informed stewards of Nordic Empire’s condition earlier today and confirmed that the issue was with the near back leg.
“At this stage he is in grave doubt for the race. But stewards will be monitoring the situation,” said steward Ian Brown.
Nordic Empire was the third favourite for the 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic thanks to his debut win in the $80,000 Flemington Equine Clinic Plate at Caulfield on November 30.
He went on to place third in an $85,000 Handicap at Canterbury last start and was well backed to claim the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic this weekend.
While Nordic Empire’s 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic berth is in doubt, Price is confident he has all he needs to win the race with his other runner Geromayo.
“Geromayo is probably the pick of my two runners anyway,” Price said.
“He’s the more bombproof of the two horses, he’s a robust colt and he hasn’t missed a beat.
“Geromayo’s drawn a better gate, he’s coping well with everything and he’s improving.
“They worked together this morning over 1000 metres and they both worked well. Which one worked better? Maybe Geromayo.
“He was a fat sort of a colt early days but he’s been very sound so I’ve been able to work him and he’s going somewhere that horse.
“I think he’s the forgotten horse in the race because he hasn’t won but his form is good and he’ll run well.
“He went well at Ballarat, he went well at Wyong and he might break his maiden status Saturday.”
