The richest summer race has unsurprisingly attracted a capacity field of 16 plus five emergencies for the Gold Coast sprint race this Saturday.

Wicked Intent, Zoutenant, Le Chef, Old Trieste, and Surf Seeker will carry the top weight of 57kg in the 2015 Magic Millions Classic while the rest of the field will carry the 55kg minimum.

The Barry Mitchell-trained Wicked Intent was $6 second favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au before the market briefly closed ahead of the field and barrier draw announcements. The colt won his first three starts including the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) and finished runner-up to Mishani Honcho in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) on December 27 – his first test over 1200 metres and against tougher rivals.

Kevin Moses’ Zoutenant won the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) on December 18, which is a good indicator of his chances on Saturday, while Darryl Hansen’s Le Chef won his last two starts.

Claudia Jean was $5.50 favourite before the market was taken down and is one of two runners due to be saddled by trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig along with Miss Idyllic. The filly jumped to top spot in the betting after winning the Christmas Season Plate (1000m) three and a half lengths clear of Bosnia.

Miss Idyllic remains winless from her four career starts, three of which she finished runner-up in including the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m).

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Carriages features among the field after winning the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) in Ballarat on November 22. While connections had hoped to run the filly in Queensland before Saturday, she was forced out of the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) early last month due to injury.

Waterhouse is also represented by second emergency Right Of Way, who finished midfield in the BJ McLachlan Stakes last Saturday.

Trainer Liam Birchley will deliver a three-pronged attack on the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic after accepting with Calaway Gal Stakes winner Flamenco, Brisbane Marriott Hotel QTIS Handicap (1110m) winner Saga Of The Storm, and Pepperano.
