Hijack Hussy is one of 16 three-year-olds (plus four emergencies) that will run in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast this Saturday.
The best of Tony Gollan’s four runners in the race, Hijack Hussy is the $3.60 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au after finishing in the first three seven times from nine starts.
Michael Rodd rode the filly to victory in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) at Flemington on November 4 and had been expected to partner her in the 2015 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas but prior commitments in Singapore ruled him out.
Timothy Bell has therefore retained the ride after leading the filly to minor placings in both the Listed Mode Plate and Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) in December.
While Gollan was disappointed the pair couldn’t win either of their last two starts, Bell explained the loss away. However he’s confident Hijack Hussy can return to the winner’s circle on Saturday after drawing well in barrier six.
“She copped a bump shortly after the start last time and that forced us to be back further than I wanted,” the hoop said to TVN.
“The track was playing to favour horses down the outside and I was committed to coming around them.
“From a good draw this week I’d like to think we can be midfield and weave through the field, I don’t want to be coming right around them.
“I’ve got no doubt I’m on the best horse in the race, she has an outstanding burst and can really let down with a sharp last sectional.”
Gollan dominates the 2015 Magic Millions Guineas with three more runners, yet none appear to have as good a shot at winning as Hijack Hussy.
Fixation ($41) and Yeager ($34) will start next to each other in gates two and three while Vienna Royale ($41) will jump from barrier 12.
