A classy field of 16 three-year-olds plus four emergencies will tackle the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday as they vie for their share of the $1 million total prizemoney.
Four of the runners are offering single figure odds in the race’s betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by firm favourite Hijack Hussy at $3.50.
The early favourite saw her odds firm following the barrier draw that saw the filly land barrier six with Timothy Bell to ride.
Hijack Hussy has placed in seven of her nine career starts, which includes a win in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) at Flemington on November 4. This campaign the filly finished third in the Listed Mode Stakes (1200m) before placing second in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) on December 27.
The filly is one of four horses to be saddled by trainer Tony Gollan in the 2015 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, including Vienna Royale ($41), Yeager ($34), and Fixation ($41).
Fixation won the Listed Breakfast Creek Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse during the winter carnival but has finished end of the field his past three times out. The gelding will carry the top weight of 57.5kg but will enjoy an inside run from barrier two.
Gary Portelli’s Testashadow will jump from barrier 12 with Tim Clark to ride. The gelding is a last start winner after claiming the Cellabrations Handicap (1400m) last time out.
The Gerald Ryan-trained Aerobar will jump from barrier four with James McDonald as his jockey. The gelding is in-form following an easy win of the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) last time out ahead of a number of key rivals for Saturday’s race, including runner-up Echo Girl.
Gai Waterhouse’s filly also finished runner-up in the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) before finishing fifth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).
Punters keen to back an outside chance with lucrative double digit odds have their share of choices in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
Mick Mair’s Mywayorthehighway ($21) won the Vo Rogue Plate on December 27. Having already beat favourite Hijack Hussy home once, a start from barrier eight will enable the filly to do it again on Saturday.
Ballarat Magic Millions 3YO Classic (1100m) winner Murt The Flirt missed out on the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes last time out but wearing blinkers for the first time will surely help the $16 hopeful.
Tales Of Fashion is the market mover after its price shortened from $26 to $19. The Trevor Bailey-trained filly will jump from barrier five with Damian Browne to ride.
