14 potential stayers will tackle the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday with a further three emergencies waiting in the wings to gain a start.
Five of the 14 runners are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Amovatio at $4.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding has scored the ideal start from barrier one as he vies for a share of the $200,000 total prize money for the race. Amovatio is in-form heading into the 2015 Magic Millions Stayers Cup after finishing in the two in his past four starts.
Is this enough to justify his favouritism or is an upset on the cards? Check out our betting tips for the race below.
#1 Tinto ($5.50)
Rex Lipp’s four-year-old mare would be a shoe in to win the Stayers Cup if she hadn’t drawn the widest gate to start from. Even with the disadvantage, Tinto is our top pick to win on Saturday. She has placed in half of her career starts which includes winning the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) during the winter. She continued her form into this campaign, finishing in the first three in both the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) and Listed Just Now Quality (1350m) before winning the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1625m) on the final day of the year. Has won two of three starts at the Gold Coast and one start over 1800 metres.
#2 Amovatio ($4)
Chris Waller’s four-year-old gelding is race favourite after drawing the inside start from barrier one. He has won two of her last four starts and finished runner-up in the other two but has yet to be tested over either the track or distance of the Stayers Cup.
#5 Our Boy Nicholas ($5.50)
The Toby Edmonds-trained four-year-old horse rounds out our trifecta tips after scoring a jump from barrier five with James McDonald to ride. The entire has won six of his 13 career starts, including the Class 6 Plate (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on December 26.
