2015 Tattersall’s Tiara on the Agenda for Srikandi

June 9th, 2015

Talented mare Srikandi produced a monumental effort to take out Saturday’s featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben, and will press onto the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on the Gold Coast in a fortnight.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Kerrin McEvoy settled Srikandi in prime position on the heels of the Stradbroke Handicap’s early leaders; receiving an ideal run in transit before mustering an impressive turn of foot to hit the line comfortably in the clear of closest rival Boban.

Understandably thrilled with the result, trainer Ciaron Maher confirmed to Racing Ahead the four-year-old will definitely take her position in the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara field as long as she pulls up well from her Stradbroke run this week.

“Providing everything is in order she should take her place,” Maher said.

“I think she’s actually come on from the run, her coat looks better this week than last and it’s been on a steady improve the whole time that she’s been up there.

“She’s got a good record on the Gold Coast; it’s a similar track to Doomben so the 1400 should be right up her alley.”

While yet to confirm a specific course of action following the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara, Maher said a tile at major races through the Spring Carnival may come to fruition.

“There are a few different options for her, I think the right-handed way of going really suits her and she does appreciate a bit of give in the track,” Maher added.

“The main aim was to try and secure a Group 1 so now we can just sit down with connections and work out where we go after this preparation.”

Stamping her claims as one to watch over a standout 2014 Brisbane Carnival campaign, Srikandi won each of the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m), Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) before finishing a credible third in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Returning this time for success in the Group 2 Victory Stakes, the daughter of Dubawi failed to make anything of an impact in each of the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) leading into Saturday’s triumph.
