The 2016 Magic Millions Classic field and barrier draw has been released and a capacity field of 16 talented juveniles are set to contest the $2 million event that will be held at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Capitalist has been the long-term favourite for the Magic Millions Classic and his odds only shortened after he was allocated barrier two at the Magic Millions Classic barrier draw that was released this morning.
The son of Written Tycoon stamped himself as the early two-year-old to follow when he recorded an impressive victory in a barrier trial over 838 metres at Royal Randwick on September 21 and he was not fully tested when recording strong wins in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 3 and the Wyong Magic Millions Classic (1100m) at Wyong on December 17.
The other leading Magic Millions Classic chances did not have as much luck at the barrier draw and both Zelady’s Night Out and Slumber Party are set to jump from towards the outside of the field.
Zelady’s Night Out made her racing debut with a comfortable win in the Flexi Membership Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on November 14 and she stamped herself as a leading contender for the Magic Millions Classic with strong wins in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) at Doomben on December 12 and the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on December 26.
Slumber Party is yet to record a race win, but any Gai Waterhouse-trained horse in the Magic Millions Classic needs to be respected and she was far from disgraced when second behind Zelady’s Night Out in the BJ McLachlan Stakes.
Other key horses in the 2016 Magic Millions Classic field includes Sundance, Nikitas, Niccolance, Just Orm, Candika, Mooshakissa and Rare Occurrence.
