The 2016 Magic Millions Guineas field has been released and a number of talented gallopers are set to contest the $2 million event that will be held at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Mahuta was one of the star three-year-old performers of the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival, but his Magic Millions Guineas chances took a hit when he was allocated barrier 20 at the Magic Millions Guineas barrier draw this morning.
The Flying Spur colt graduated from a maiden race win at Kyneton on October 8 to take out the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 17 and he went on to take out the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 31 and the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on November 14.
Another leading Magic Millions Guineas contender that did not have a great deal of luck at the barrier draw was Team Snowden-trained Flippant.
Flippant stamped herself as a filly with plenty of talent when she took out both the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) and Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) during her winter campaign, but she failed to beat home a single horse when she returned to racing in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 17.
She was found after the race to have suffered from cardiac arrhythmia and she returned to her best form to take out the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes (1200m) in impressive fashion on December 17.
The big winner of the 2016 Magic Millions Guineas barrier draw was Egyptian Symbol, who is set to receive a dream run into the race from barrier six.
Egyptian Symbol started her racing career with three straight race wins and she was far from disgraced when second behind Flippant in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes and third behind Madotti and Most Important in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
